Watch the videos in the following links to see where the Poisson distribution comes from:
For a random variable with a Poisson distribution, both the mean and the variance are equal to lambda. Note that this property is specific to the Poisson distribution and that it cannot be generalized to other distributions.

*** Announcements ***
- Those who have missed an exam can take the make-up exam (bütünleme). The make-up exam schedule will be announced by the university administration.
- There will be no make-up for missed quizzes.
- Midterm 1 will be on Thursday, October 5, 2017, during lecture time, in the lecture hall (Amfi 3).
- Midterm 2 will be on Thursday, November 9, 2017, during lecture time, in the lecture hall (Amfi 3).
In the final exam, students will be responsible from all of the topics covered during the semester.
The exam will contain classical type questions as well as multiple choice and True-False type questions. Points may be reduced for false answers; therefore, leaving the questions unanswered may be a better strategy if the student does not know the answer.
During the exam, students may use their own formula sheets. The formula sheet can be as large as an A-4 sized paper. Only one side of the paper may be used.
Each student will need own pencil and eraser. Exchange of stationery will not be allowed during the exam.
Cell phones must be turned off during the exam.
No calculators will be allowed.
The weighting of the exams may be re-adjusted as follows:
- the midterm exam with the lower grade: 20%,
- the other midterm exam 30%, and
- the final exam 40%.
Quiz 7 was done on Thursday, Oct 26, in class.
Quiz 9 was done on Thursday, Nov 16, in class.
